Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin

Naturally derived pigment source – Obtained from chlorophyll-rich green plants such as bamboo, alfalfa, clover, and other botanical materials, providing a natural foundation for pigment production.

Enhanced structural stability – Copper substitution at the center of the chlorophyll molecule improves stability and expands its functional performance compared with natural chlorophyll.

Improved water compatibility through modification – The saponification process removes methyl and phytol groups, converting the molecule into a more soluble disodium salt form.

Member of the chlorophyll pigment family – Shares similar structural characteristics and preparation methods with other metal chlorophyll derivatives, including sodium iron chlorophyllin and sodium zinc chlorophyllin.

Product Description of Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin (CAS No. 11006-34-1)

Sodium copper chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic chlorophyll-derived pigment produced from natural green plant materials, including bamboo leaves, alfalfa, clover, and other chlorophyll-containing botanical sources. The manufacturing process involves extracting natural chlorophyll using suitable organic solvents, followed by chemical modification to improve stability and functional performance.

During production, the magnesium ion at the core of the chlorophyll structure is replaced with copper ions, enhancing pigment stability. Subsequent alkaline saponification removes methyl and phytol groups and converts them into carboxyl groups, resulting in the formation of a stable disodium salt structure.

As an important member of the chlorophyllin pigment family, sodium copper chlorophyllin combines natural plant-derived characteristics with improved solubility and stability, making it a valuable pigment material for various formulation and industrial applications.
